The results of the Call for Works for Schallfeld Ensemble
We are happy to have received 32 applications by December 8th, 2019 with compositions for Schallfeld Ensemble’s provided instruments, of considerable artistic level. For the performance in the opening concert on April 23rd, 2020 in MicroFest Prague 2020, we have selected the following three compositions:

Xue HAN: SharpDop PupPipTrip (2019) for duo (flute in C & bass flute, contrabass)
Hyeokjae KIM: Bubblegum Music (2019) for trio (fl., acc., vc.)
Eleni RALLI: Small Moments (like these) – The Quartet Version (2019) for quartet (fl., acc., vc., cb.)

Congratulations to the composers of selected works!  The jury for the ensemble works consisted of Lorenzo Derinni of Schallfeld Ensemble (AT/ITA), festival organisers Iva Oplištilová (CZ) and J-T Vesikkala Wittmacher (CZ/FIN), and external specialist on microtonality, composer James Erber (UK). The distribution of the scores is visualised below. One work was disqualified for incongruent instrumentation. The selection included considerations of programming and technical criteria and the selections were from among the five works that the jury had rated highest. The ensemble will be happy to contact the selected composers soon and also give technical comments to the works that could not be selected at this time.

The original text of the Call: We announce that microtonal compositions for ensemble of three or four are sought for a concert in Prague on Thursday 23rd of April, 2020. The music will be performed by members of the Austrian Schallfeld Ensemble in the opening concert of the MicroFest Prague 2020 / Institut mikrointervalové hudby 2020. Works should be for the whole quartet or a trio subset from the instruments Flute, Accordion, Cello and Double Bass and include microtonality. The instruments are of standard design, and microtonality on the flute and accordion have their usual limitations.
The concert space will be Divadlo Inspirace at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. In the concert, Schallfeld Ensemble will also showcase works from recent standard repertoire that include microtonality.
Works containing improvised, meaning not strictly and thoroughly notated, durations and dynamics will also be considered. Microtonal elements can be notated with high precision if desired.

Submission Rules and Guidelines

Please send a finished microtonal composition for the entire quartet or a trio from the instruments fl., acc., vc., cb. (no electronics available). Works between 4 and 10 minutes, and works performable without conductor are given slight preference. There are no limitations as to who may apply. The work may be old or new, previously performed or unperformed.
Your message has to contain the performance material and duration estimate for your finished work, year of composition, and your composer name, telephone number and email address. Other contact or biographical information is not necessary.
No specific preparations, electronics, video, lighting or additional stage objects are allowed.
